Welcome to the City of Ocala’s Discovery Center at Tuscawilla Park where exciting changes occur every day. We are open for programs and workshops but not currently for general exhibit visits.
Visit our newly completed, state-of-the-art "All Children's Playground" right outside our front door.
The Discovery Center was moved to the old Armory (Tuscawilla Youth Center) in 2009. At that time the ground floor of the building was renovated to facilitate the continueation of the educational opportunities offered to the public. The move to Tuscawilla Park has been advantageous for the DC in view of the fact that our programs, camps, and visibility are growing.
For many years the upstairs, approximately 5,000 square feet, of this 1941 building was used as a basketball and volleyball court. Long range plans offer this valuable space to become fully operational once again.
February 2012 marks the 100 Year Anniversary of the Rotary Clubs in Florida.
On February, 11, 2012 the Marion County Rotarians and the City of Ocala’s Discovery Center will host an unusual event that’s bound to be a huge success with your attendance. It’s called Rotary Discovery Fest – a celebration benefiting the Discovery Center. Please join us for a day filled with games, activities, great warm food, and competitions for all ages. There will be a collaboration of events ranging from Cow Pattie Bingo to Zumba-thon. Tickets will be sold by Rotarians before the event and at the gate. Children 5 years of age and under are FREE, 6 to 12 years are $5.00, and 13 years and up are $10.00. Tickets enable participants to enjoy all of the event activities numerous times. There are plans to hold special contests for adults with a small walk on fee. All the monies raised at the event have been designated to support the renovations of the Discovery Center.
The Rotarians have presented the Discovery Center with a $20,000 check representing funds raised at a benefit Golf Tournament in early 2011.
The fund raising efforts of our local Rotarians and the Discovery Center Foundation members are certain to stimulate momentum in the transformation of the upstairs into a facility that will be used to house traveling exhibits, educational gatherings,
and support the need for a strong, stable anchor at Tuscawilla Park. Join us on February 11, 2012 and celebrate the Rotary Anniversary!
