Boy Scout Merit Badge Workshops

Our first Merit Badge Workshop: FORESTRY!

The Discovery Center is excited to announce our new Merit Badge Workshop Series.  Future Badge Workshops will include Forestry, Soil and Water Conservation, Fish and Wildlife management, and Geocaching.

Our workshops are structured to assist scouts in fulfilling the requirements to acheive specific merit badges.

Participants will need to bring their own blue cards, as they will NOT be provided.  A Merit Badge Counselor will be available to sign blue card applications at the end of each workshop.  Parents will be responsible for transportation when a field trip is included in the workshop.

Our Forestry workshop included a classroom session followed by "in the field" studies.

Our first Forestry Merit Badge Workshop was held on Saturday, May 7, 2011.   Scouts were led by Merit Badge Counselors, Greg Barton from the Florida State Division of Forestry and Suzanne Shuffitt, Discovery Center Supervisor during three and a half hours of exploration at the Discovery Center and Tuscawilla Park.   After a lunch break, scouts, troop leaders, counselors, and parents conviened at the Cordwin Sawmill in Fairfield, FL for a private tour of the facility.

If you would like to receive e-blast announcements of future merit badge workshops please send us an email to discovery@ocalafl.org.
