Karen Puracan

Our bona fide naturalist, Karen Puracan, recieved her Bachelor’s Degree from Silliman University (Philippines), majoring in Biology, in 1993.   She was an Environmental Educator/Naturalist with the Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation (PA) from 1996-2010, and an Outdoor Education Instructor at Black Rock Retreat in Quarryville, PA.

Now living in Ocala with her husband Jef and daughter Hannah, Karen is a the Middle School and Upper School Science teacher at Hale Academy in Ocala.

Her “after hours” interests (when she has time, which is not very often these days!) are birding, butterflies, native bees/wasps, and native plants.   She is also an accomplished quilter, and plays violin, mandolin, and guitar.   We are pleased to have Karen leading our Families Exploring Together – Saturday Adventures.
