Art enhances our public spaces, and transforms an ordinary space into a destination. It fosters creativity, thoughtfulness, and discovery among our citizens and visitors. The City of Ocala recognizes the importance of the cultural arts and strives to provide leadership in advancing cultural arts programs.
Call to Artists!
The City of Ocala and the Marion Cultural Alliance have partnered to bring to the community a new, themed Juried Art Show Series: Culture Builds…”Living Communities”, “Inspiring Spaces”, and “Evolved Play”. The show themes were chosen to emphasize the impact that culture has in our daily lives.
This three show series will debut in November 2012 with a total of $6,000 in awards for the artists! Each show will result in a 6 month exhibit on one of our city’s premier public spaces and will include an opening reception that showcases Ocala’s culture. Art work will be for sale during the exhibits.
Proceeds from this program will benefit the Marion Cultural Alliance and their grant fund. MCA members will receive a discount on entry fees. The City of Ocala encourages you to visit the MCA website and learn more about this important organization. Click here to visit MCA.

A note on themes:
These are meant to be broad themes. Not necessarily needing to be subject matter relative to Ocala/Marion County, but of course that would be a bonus. Examples of appropriate subjects would be:
Living Communities: People interacting/celebrating, a special occasion, a landscape or street scene, the farmers’ market, a festival, a park scene, a mother and child, folks gathering on a front porch, children skipping rope, a school room scene, a child reading a book…
Inspiring Spaces: a public green space, interior of a church, a historic building or structure with unique architecture, a mediation setting…
Evolved Play: recreational sports, two individuals playing chess, children on a playground, computer technology, iconic toys…
